The Board of Directors
President – Andrea Glass
Andrea is incredibly proud to be a part of the Ephrata Performing Arts Center family and is committed to advocating for theater that matters in our community. She is currently a full-time instructor in Women and Gender Studies for the University of Delaware and is very involved in the Lancaster Community. She has a Ph.D. in American Studies from Penn State University, where she focused on gender and sexuality and urban culture and history. Andrea also holds a master’s degree from the University of Delaware in American History and Museum Studies, a master’s degree from Penn State University in American Studies, and bachelor’s degrees in Art History and American Studies from Penn State University. Andrea has lived in Lancaster for the past seventeen years, but is always traveling somewhere new. She has a diverse background that includes working for non-profits for over thirteen years, leading community efforts in economic development and social justice, and documenting cultural landscapes as a writer and photographer. Andrea is very passionate about accessibility and the arts, as well as using theater to showcase diverse voices and experiences.
Vice President – Bob Checchia
Bob spent his youth performing in NYC and pursued a degree in Theatre Arts and Communication. He is currently an Operations Manager for a business in Mechanicsburg. The strong sense of family he found at EPAC, along with the organizations dedication to professionalism, has inspired Bob to dedicate his time as a member of the Board of Directors. Bob serves as chair of the Maintenance Committee and is a member of the Personnel Committee. Bob loves EPAC and will continue to support theater that matters.
Secretary – Robin Payne
Robin is the Director of Admission & Outreach at The Janus School. She has been an educator for over thirty years and enjoys sharing her love of theater with students and theater patrons alike. Robin is especially pleased to support the Ephrata Performing Arts Center in their mission to provide theater that matters to the community. Robin and her husband Leonard live in Lancaster and have appeared together as actor and musician in many EPAC productions since 2003.
Treasurer – Preston Cuer
Preston Cuer has been involved with EPAC since 2012 as an actor and as part of production teams. Earning his B.S. in Computer Information Sciences and his B.F.A. in Theatre Performance, Preston has worked as a Software Engineer with Cargas Systems, Inc since 2011. He has been a part of various theatres in the Lancaster area over the past decade, serving in many areas from acting or technical work to Production Management and Direction. Preston’s love for theatre and its impact on the people of the community drives his passion for EPAC and its mission to produce theater that matters.
Member-At-Large – Debbie Havert
Debbie is so delighted to be returning to EPAC as a member of the board of directors. In her view, EPAC is the epitome of theater that matters. Previously, she acted at EPAC and The Fulton Opera House, as well as various other theater groups. Debbie has worked as an administrator and teacher in various schools and is currently an emotional intelligence and leadership consultant, trainer, and coach with EQ Transformations. She is the co-author of a new book on promoting important conversations within families, schools, and organizations, entitled, Conversing On The Real: Authentic Conversations About Living Plugged In. Debbie is also a playwright and composer. Additionally, she has composed music for schools and fundraisers. Community service has been an integral part of Debbie’s life. She has served on various boards of trustees related to the arts, education, and health, as a member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund Board, and the Junior League in the cities of Lancaster, Houston, and Philadelphia.
Dave retired from Ephrata High School, where he was a sixth grade teacher and Theatre Department Director. While there, he championed the growth of the middle and high school theater programs influencing generations of young artists. Dave has directed several EPAC Main Stage and Children’s Theatre musicals and is a past president of both the EPAC Board of Directors and the Ephrata Area Education Association. Dave is also a proud member of the New York City Drama League and supports EPAC’s mission to provide theater that matters.
David is Principal and Design Team Leader, at David Lyall Home & Design. A member of the Interior Design Society (IDS), David’s career in art and Interior Design spans over 25 years. In addition to a home furnishings and décor showroom, David and his namesake company’s Interior Design team specialize in planning, developing, and implementing customized commercial and residential interiors for clients thru-out Central Pennsylvania, the mid-Atlantic , and beyond. Ardent advocates for the adoption of senior animals thru local shelters, David, his partner Douglas, and their adopted rescue, Batdog, reside in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
David recently served as President of The Neighborhoods of Old Town Civic Association, and actively volunteers his time and services to the Lancaster/Lebanon chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
A champion of theatre and local arts, David is a 15 year patron of EPAC. He marvels at the range of high quality talent and productions that continually grace the EPAC stage. He is proud to serve on the Ephrata Performing Arts Center Board of Directors, believes in the impact of live theatre, and looks forward to furthering the mission of Theatre That Matters.
Andi has been involved with EPAC since 1982. She performed on stage in numerous EPAC productions over the years and has worked in just about every aspect of the theatre from behind the scenes to box office. Andi found her calling in theatre because of EPAC and all the amazing experiences she had here as a child. She studied Theatre Arts at Boston University and is currently a student at Elizabethtown College, majoring in Business Administration. Andi has worked professionally as an actress, in administration, and presently works at ATOMIC Design Inc. as Office Manager. She is absolutely thrilled to be a part of the EPAC Board of Directors. EPAC is such a historic treasure to Lancaster County and Andi is committed to keeping the history, the passion, the creativity and the theatre that matters alive, for generations to come.
Artistic Director – Edward R Fernandez
This is Ed’s 23rd year as Artistic Director of the Ephrata Performing Arts Center. Before moving to Ephrata, he studied Theatre Arts at the Leonard Davies Center for the Performing Arts at the City College of New York. Ed took over the reins as Artistic Director of EPAC in 1997, and his directing and acting credits are too numerous to mention. He has inspired thousands of performers and patrons over the years and his vision is at the core of theater that matters.
It all started when Steve Turpin was a Senior in High School and was approached by a Bank Branch Manager to see her for a job. Since Steve loved to play with money, and didn’t have much growing up, he jumped at the chance to join the financial services industry working part-time for Union Community Bank as a Teller. After High School, Steve attended Consolidated School of Business and obtained a Business degree in Travel and Accounting. After working (11) years with Union Community Bank, Steve decided to join M&T Bank as an Assistant Branch Manager. Once Steve found out about the “other” type of banking, he decided to join Lanco Federal Credit Union in August of 2013 and now handles all business development functions of the organization as the Business Development Manager. His responsibilities include the cultivating of relationships with new and existing business partners and consumers in Lancaster County. Steve also spends his time promoting financial literacy at various community events and partners with the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association in conducting financial workshops and financial Realty Fairs both within the community and at local schools. Steve is a board member for the Mount Joy Chamber of Commerce as the treasurer, a board member for Aaron’s Acres as well as EPAC.
Steve was born in Hershey, PA and is now a native of Lancaster, PA. Steve enjoys spending time with his children, traveling, frequenting the local restaurants in the Lancaster area and spending time with friends.
Liz Ackerman is the Executive Director of the Northern Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce. She joined the board in 2019 because she believes in the power of theatre to change lives and enrich the community. When not working, she can be found spending time with her husband & two girls or volunteering in the community.
